DARPA’s ReGenesis Workshop: Summary and Suggestions
Rosemary Hunziker
As a step toward a possible funding initiative in Regenerative Biology, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) conducted an exploratory workshop 18 – 19 March, 2003. Speakers summarized work to date in various animal and in vitro models to address five aspects of regeneration: Blastema Development in Model Systems, Regeneration from a Systems Perspective, Cell Biology of Dedifferentiation and Transdifferentiation, Molecular Biology of Regeneration, and Possible Triggers to Induce Regeneration. The summary and conclusions from this meeting will be presented along with current prospects for a DARPA program in this area.
