- Lousiana State University in partnership with Southern
University, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana Health Sciences, Korea Institute of
Science and Technology, National Taiwan University and the University of Lyons
in France has a new NSF IGERT initiative on Multi-Scale
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) . Their goal is provide graduate
students with a multidisciplinary education that integrates various elements
critical to CFD problems. Departments and outside partners that are involved
include: Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics,
Oceanography, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geology, Biological
Sciences, Chemistry and Education. They are encouraging Minority and Women
applicants at Master and Ph.D. levels. Applications can be
submitted for any of three semesters.
- Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for Geoscientists (CSIG) San Diego Supercomputer Center
August 14-18, 2006 San Diego, CA. The Cyberinfrastructure Summer Institute for
Geoscientists series
is designed to introduce geoscientists to commonly-used as well as emergent
information technology (IT) tools. Topics covered include Data Modeling, Web
Services, and Geographic Information Systems as well as a brief introduction to
key concepts in Grid Computing, Parallel Programming, and Scientific
Workflows.
- MURF Minority Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
program at Caltech, provides
support for talented undergraduates to spend a summer working in a research
laboratory on the Caltech campus. The deadline for Summer 2006 has passed. This
builds on Caltech's very successful SURF program.
