So as the world moves with Internet Speed, it is important to evaluate and perhaps modify aspects of the journal Concurrency:Practice and Experience. So here I ignore cosmic issues about nature of journals and discuss more traditional issues. 1. Name of Journal I think it is fair to say that parallel computing and concurrency are still important but do not sit as much in center stage as they used to. Thus it appears to me necessary to broaden theme of journal and probably change its name. I will decree that :Practice and Experience is a central and succesful aspect of journal and so lets think of new names of general design: X:Practice and Experience The name should a) Retain "recognition" of current name b) Have longevity so we don't have to change names every 2 years c) Not conflict with X=Software which is original Wiley journal with this theme d) Broaden theme So I find solutions like X= Computing or Computer science as rather pretentious and violate a) above. Best I can come up with is Concurrency and Computation:Practice and Experience but I welcome all comments and suggestions. 2. Theme of Journal The journal has and/or could cover (all with a Practice and Experience flavor) Computing/Programming Paradigms, Tools, Algorithms, Compilers Distributed and Parallel Computing Java Grande Benchmarking Applications in science and engineering (i.e. "Grande" applications) Computational Grids and Metacomputing Problem Solving Environments (Portals) Education What do you think? 3. Editorial Board We have quite a small editorial board and should add more members Who do you suggest? 4. Special Issues I find special issues attractive as they give a reason to bind a collection of articles together. What do you think? If you like such issues, can you suggest themes/editors. Here are some ideas: Information Technology in HPCC Highlights of the NSF PACI Program (could do this for ASCI, DoD PET DoD CHSSI etc.) Education (several foci here) Problem Solving Environments (Portals) Computational Grids (What journal focuses on this?) 5. Theory and Practice of Object Systems (TAPOS) This Wiley journal is closing this year and I agreed to take those articles from it with a Practice and Experience theme and some (to be determined) editors. I thought this should fit OK given seeming success of Java Grande special issues. This change also supports broadening name and theme What do you think? 6. Getting Consensus/Making Progress So we can have email exchange but also we could schedule conference phone calls etc. What strategy would you like? All comments appreciated
