Fox Editor, Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience Computational Science and Information Technology Florida State University Dear Professor Geoffrey C. Fox, Thank you for your kind e-mail on the 28th of October. This is to resubmit our paper to Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience. We have enclosed a postscript version of our revised paper (C524) "Lesser Bear: a lightweight process library for SMP computers - scheduling mechanism without a lock operation". We thank you very much for Referees' kind comments. We have revised our paper to incorporate Referee comments. We would like to send a reply to some important points as follows. (1) In order to make description clearer, we have defined "LB2" as the previous version of Lesser Bear and "LB3" as the current version of Lesser Bear in section 2 and section 3, respectively, and we have quoted each term afterward in the revised paper. We have also eliminated irregular switch of focus between the LB2 and the LB3. (2) As indicated by Referee, there was little discussion about "Protect Queue" and "Waiver Queue" in the original paper. Thus, we have described the function of these queues briefly in section 1 (page 2) and we have added section 2.3 which discusses it in detail. (3) We have added figure 6 showing that the Waiver Queue operates threads without locks in the LB3. (4) We have revised figure 7 (figure 6 of the original paper) to show, step-by-step, how the LB3 distributes threads. (5) We have revised our paper to reflect "F: Presentation Changes" of Referees' comments. In particular, we have eliminated careless repetition of "no lock operations". We would appreciate it if you would confirm your receipt of the documents in order by return mail. Thank you. Yours sincerely, Hisashi Oguma c/o Prof. Yasuichi Nakayama Department of Computer Science, The University of Electro-Communications oguma-h@igo.cs.uec.ac.jp .
