It is therefore increasingly important that we can get journal material ready for publication as soon as it is received in-house. We are occasionally finding that delay is caused by articles or other journal material being delivered without permissions to use third party material or with inadequate permissions, the most common being permission to use an illustration or figure in print media only. The effect of this is that whole issues can be delayed and occasionally an article has to be withdrawn altogether or be published on-line with the third party material blocked out. I am sending with this letter a copy of our current standard permission form as this contains the necessary wording for obtaining third party permissions. It is also available on-line at the Journal website homepage. The following website also includes useful information about the permissions process and frequently asked questions about the limits of fair use and other copyright issues: http://www.wiley.com/about/permissions Bulk copies of the permissions form are available by request from your production editor Peter Wright. Could I ask you to forward copies of the form and the information above to authors so that they can initiate the permissions process at an early enough stage to avoid delay later in the publication process? It is, of course, the responsibility of the authors to obtain permissions as required by the Copyright Transfer Agreement but I'm sure that a gentle reminder and support as required will help to reduce unnecessary delay at the point of publication. A complete set of permissions should be delivered together with the manuscript, a signed Copyright Transfer Agreement and the transmission form to your production editor at Wiley. Thank you for your help in this process and also for helping to maintain our excellent level of compliance in relation to Copyright Transfer Agreements. With best regards.
