How To Use This Archive

This search interface contains three frames. Each of these has a specific role :

Calendar Index (top left) Navigate articles through daily, weekly or monthly indexes		Article Header List (top right) List of articles with subject, sender, time, and newsgroup information for a particular day
Article Body (bottom) Display message body of an article

Calendar Index

Based on articles archived on an hourly basis, this calendar-based index allows you to retrieve articles chronologically.

If there is no article for a day, the number for the day is not hyperlinked, otherwise, you can click on the day and a list of article headers will be displayed in the Article Header List frame on the top right.

You can navigate monthly indexes by clicking the left and right arrows or directly go to a month's indexes by clicking a month name.

On the bottom of the calendar is the date of today when you are accessing to this database. Upon entering this interface, today's message headers are automatically listed on the top right frame.

Keyword Search allows you to enter keyword(s) to search in the month you are looking in the calendar. You enter one or more keywords (separated by blank spaces) and hit '< enter >' or click the Submit button, a list of article which contains all of the keywords will appear in the right frame as the search results. Note the search scope is all articles in a month (neither a day nor the whole archive), it may take a while to finish the search.

The keyword search treats all type-in keywords as insensitive (in lower case). For multiple keywords, it uses 'AND' operator to find articles containing all the keywords.

Article Header List

This frame is used to list article headers for a particular day you choosed from the top left calenda frame or results of your keyword search. The attributes in subject,sender,time and newsgroup of an article are displayed while the subject text is hyperlinked to allow you to access the message body of the article. To read the complete article text, you click on a subject link and the text of the article will be displayed in the Article Body frame on the bottom.

Clicking on the hyperlinked column titles, you can sort the list by subject text, by sender's name, the time articles were posted. By default, sort by time is used. Note that in sort by subject, an article replies to another one will be sorted in the same subject line.

Article Body

This frame is used to display the complete email message of an article. The sender's email address is linked to a page describing other relavent information about the sender in the whole archive database. You can also access the summary information about the newsgroup the current article is sent.

For an article which replied to another article, the subject text is linked to the article replied by the current one.

If the article is the result of a keyword search, all the occurrence of each keyword in the message will be highlighted.

All URLs occurred in the message body will be identified and hyperlinked.

You can also reply the current article, post new message by using the links provided at the bottom of the frame to activate a separate mail window. The Home link also allows you to access another more generic search interface of this archive database system.
