As can be seen, the number of iterations required at either resolution is (roughly) cut in half by simply assigning the initial interior values to be the average of the boundary. This is just another example of the credo in solving differential equations using iterative methods: the initial guess can greatly effect the amount of work you have to do. In fact, this result actually suggests the Multigrid methods in solving elliptic equations.
