IMAGE NPAC Experimental Servers

Welcome to NPAC's experimental servers running NCSA HTTPd 1.5. These are test servers for the development of HTML, Java, JavaScript, CGI scripts, imagemaps and Oracle interfaces.

newton
An SGI running IRIX 5.3
osprey7
A Sun Ultrasparc 2 running Solaris 2.5.1
If you are working for NPAC and wish to use these servers please ask the webmaster to include setup directories for you. If you are in an SU/NPAC class contact your instructor. For information about the server, problems or CGI-specific questions you may contact webmaster . For system related questions please contact systems

Developer's pages

There is some sharing amoung servers so please read closely

Other people may also develop on this server. The have pages located in the following places:

Documents directory /users/
newton -- /home/B6H/development/document_root/users/
osprey7 - /servers/cgi-http-class/htdoc/users-docs/
CGI directory /cgi-bin/
newton -- /home/B6H/development/newton_cgi-bin/
osprey7 - /servers/cgi-http-class/htdoc/users-cgi/
Distributed software CGI directory /cgi-dist/
newton -- /home/B6H/development/newton_cgi-dist/
osprey7 - NONE
For example, user asm is developing CGI programs on newton. His HTML documents should reside in /users/asm/ and his CGI programs in /home/B6H/development/newton_cgi-bin/asm/. So asm's CGI date program can be accessed using the following URL: /cgi-bin/asm/date. asm can also access the date program (which is distributed with the NCSA server) by calling the original distributed version is /cgi-dist/date stored in /home/B6H/development/newton_cgi-dist/date.

Each student will be allocated a directory in within these URLs. For example, user asm is a student of ECE400. His HTML documents should reside in /ecs400spring96-docs/asm/ and his CGI programs in /ecs400spring96-cgi/asm/. So asm's CGI date program can be accessed using the following URL /ecs400spring96-cgi/asm/date.

Students should note that some parts of the NPAC web server, notably the internal server,
are only available to browsers within the npac.syr.edu domain.
