Electromagnetic Scattering Simulation

Before starting this demo, you must:

  1. Type the hostname or IP address of your local machine in the box labeled "X Display" below, and
  2. Type "xhost +mel.npac.syr.edu" to a Unix Command shell on your machine so that your X server can allow windows of this demo to be displayed on your screen.
Click on the button labeled "Start" when you are ready.

This demo will be started under the following two conditions:
  1. Connection Machine 5 resource at NPAC is available at the time this demo is requested. If the CM5 is not in operational or there is not enough memory left on CM5 to start this demo, the demo will be hanging there. In this case, please quit this demo by killing(or quitting) the three windows displayed on your X terminal.
  2. At most two demo requests can be granted at the same time. If there are already two users of this demo are running, your request simply returns. In this case, please try it later. Each granted user has at maximum 5 minutes (CPU) time to run this demo.

    It may take a while to setup the system configuration for this demo. Please be patient! Before starting the demo, you may get to know demo parameters which you can steer at runtime from a system control panel.

    After starting up the GUI, you can disconnect the Mosaic connection and continue your browsing from the Mosaic window, while conducting the demo from the GUI at the same time.

    After modifying the parameters from the GUI, you must click the button to start a new simulation.

    In normal case, if you want to quit this demo, click the button.
