I hope that you are enjoining the beautiful winter in Florida. Today I am writing you to get a clarification from you. As soon as I hear from you, I plan to act on the students folders so that they can get busy doing their research. A number of our Ph.D. students have written to us that they will work under your guidance i.e., they want to be your advisee. Here is a partial list: Mehmet Aktas Galip Aydin Cevat Iklbas Bulent Tugrul Beytullah Yildiz My question is: You are in Florida. Rules of EECS are applicable to them. They have to take the courses, the qualifying exam, the prelim etc. following the rules and regulations set by us. How are we going to handle these issues? Are you possibly thinking of co-advisor model so that with your concurrence, the local person is mainly responsible for such details and guides the students towards Ph.D. in a timely fashion? Otherwise, for example, you have to come to Syracuse every time a student wants to take the prelim exam. How are we going to set the qualifying exams in their research areas? I know this is a minor problem, you can always set the exam and mail it ot us. The problem is of a long term commitment. Please send your comments so that I can proceed with the admission and other issues. Thanks.
