Dear Professor Fox,

We have updated the paper based on referee comments, and have added
suggestions from all responses made by referees. The updates to the paper
include:

In response to Referee1:

1.      The reasons and advantages of using XML in the conclusions section
2.      Comparion of our work with other existing approaches in the
        `Previous work' section
3.      A more in-depth comparison with JavaBeans
4.      Re-worded part of the abstract to make it more clear
5.      Added reference to a more complex application, in addition to the
        mathematical equation editor

In response to Referee2:

1.      Elimated two figures
2.      Replaced the JESS Applet window with a text based session

In response to Referee3:

1.      Defined in more detail the component model, and the use of
        multi-tier approach in the application
2.      The architecture of the PSE is now described in greater detail,
        and the three tiers are explained
3.      The use of Java RMI vs. CORBA ORB has been explained with reference
        to the neural network application.

We thank the referees for their time and comments, and are grateful for
their suggestions.

An updated version of the paper, as a postscript file, is attached
with this email. A tar'gz'd version of the latex source+figures is also
attached.
