  • MPEG - requires 1.5-1.8Mb/s network bandwidth
  • H263+audio - requires 50-150Kb/s network bandwidth
NPAC VOD database allows to search for video clips specifying keywords through Web page interface
Video clips can be randomly-accessed during playing
  • via Video Client application slider
  • via links on caption text Web page

Download self-extracting installation file from:
http://trurl.npac.syr.edu/bart/installvod.html
Double-click on the file
Wizard will guide you through installation process
Default directory to unzip installation package files is
  • system default TEMP directory
Default directory for Video Client software is
  • C:\Program Files\NPAC\VClient

Netscape must be properly configured:
  • VOD mime-types have to be associated with Video Client files
    • vod/nvs - set to launch vclient.exe from Video Client directory
    • vod/ofs - set to launch seek.exe from Video Client directory
When Netscape asks you what to do with the new mime-type:
  • choose "Pick app..." and "Browse..."
  • find your local Video Client directory
  • choose appropriate file (vclient.exe or seek.exe)

Keyword search is case-sensitive
You MUST choose in which field you are looking for keywords (e.g. Captions)
NPAC VOD database content is under construction
Random access works with MPEG only. H263 files can be randomly-accessed under following conditions:
  • fast processor
  • STOPPING video before seeking (PAUSING is not enough)
  • via links on caption text Web page
