Foil 3 Spatial Differencing in NAS Benchmarks

From Spatial Differencing and ADI Solution of the NAS Benchmarks CPSP713 Case studies in Computational Science -- Spring Semester 1996. by Geoffrey C. Fox

Sections 3.4.2,3.4.3,3.4.4 cover basic spatial discretization
We are using uniform grid in x,h,z directions with respective step sizes hx,hh,hz.
These cover unit cube in x,h,z space with total number of points which is for benchmark problems the same NNAS in each spatial direction
  • NNAS = 64 for class A and 102 for class B
We can use finite difference methods because of uniform grid and these involve such approximations as:
  • Of course each U should have a time superscript n which is left off for clarity
