It is my pleasure to recommend Lukasz Beca for a research position at IBM. Lukasz worked in the group (which I led) that built the Tango collaboration system for several years and demonstrated both great innovation and a remarkable quality of software engineering. I was at Syracuse for 10 years and I would consider Lukasz the strongest student that I knew at this university during this time. This implies that he was clearly the strongest scientist in the Tango group and responsible for much of its quality of implementation and innovation. I have not followed the WebWisdom.com work since I left Syracuse about 15 months ago, but Lukasz's work in mid 1999 was very influential in my research. His development of collaborative web pages using XML to specify content and control suggested to me the concept of collaborative portals which I have pursued since then. I have interacted with IBM research off and on over many years and one of my best Caltech students went to IBM. I think I know the high standard you expect and I believe Lukasz meets this. He has my full and unreserved support. Geoffrey Fox Eppes Professor Florida State University February 11 2001
