Geoffrey, Greetings. . . . . . . . If all goes as promised, the IE RFP should be posted today at http://www.hpcmo.hpc.mil/Htdocs/RFI/. Attached is the RFP and two documents to be posted with it. There is a third IE document that is actually Document#4 from the PET/RFI(HPCMP User Demographics - http://www.hpcmo.hpc.mil/Htdocs/RFI/user_demographics_usersby_cta.pdf). All three Documents are referenced in the IE Statement of Work. The suspense for questions will be 9 Feb., and 20 Feb. for answers. Feb.26 is the suspense for proposals. If possible, I'd like to move you into the drivers seat, and shift into high gear during the Q&A and Evaluation stage. I would have given you a longer heads-up but I honestly didn't know when contracting was going to post it. What is your preference for a plan of attack ? I'm at your disposal to round up what ever resources you deem necessary. Are there any other technical experts that you would like to be on your team. Vern Staats (ASC's government security/Kerberos POC) has agreed to assist. The program office has agreed to loan us their Database/Web personnel if you think they would be useful. The SRCAP has agreed to assist from a "pioneer user" perspective later on during the testing phase. Let me know what makes sense to you. Thanks, Charlotte P.S. I've also attached three emails that I'd like your opinion/assistance on. We will probably have to use Mom-Bell for that. thanx, cdc Subject: A DoD HPCMO Task for MCWG From: Aram Kevorkian Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2001 22:16:13 -0500 To: amerg@ARL.MIL, William.Asbury@wpafb.af.mil, Charlotte.Coleman@wpafb.af.mil, Jeff.Graham@wpafb.af.mil, nealer@navair.navy.mil, rottmag@wes.army.mil, schroedere@navo.navy.mil, wshackel@navo.hpc.mil, vto@hpti.com, William.Zilliox@wpafb.af.mil, adams@wes.hpc.mil, Mahmoud.Hanafi@wpafb.af.mil, Henry.Laughlin@wpafb.af.mil, Aram Kevorkian CC: baird@hpcmo.hpc.mil, larryd@hpcmo.hpc.mil, frankmello@hpcmo.hpc.mil, reidy@hpcmo.hpc.mil, COMESB1@wes.army.mil Colleagues, Mr. Cray Henry, Director HPCMP, is planning to establish and implement a unified web-assisted "common user interface" across all MSRCs and DCs. Mr. Henry together with Dr. Larry Davis, Dr. Frank Mello and Mr. Bill Reidy, all from HPCMO, are tasking our MCWG to review and evaluate common user interface portals available at key computational resources across the country, and to present a recommendation to Mr. Henry. According to Larry, Frank and Bill, both NSF Centers NCSA and SDSC, and also AHPCRC, may have common user interface web portal capabilities at their respective centers. Any of these centers may be a possible candidate for such an interface. The web portal at AHPCRC is called TeraWeb. Mr. Cray Henry would like the MCWG make its recommendation at a meeting to be held at HPCMO. Convenient dates for the HPCMO are either February 14 or February 15, 2001. Our first and primary task will be to get as much information as we can on all available common user interface web portals, and especially those at NCSA, SDSC and AHPCRC. If need be, we may want to arrange for some demonstrations of these portal capabilities prior to our meeting. For your info, Ms. Mary Thomas is the manager of the Computational Sciences Portals Group at SDSC. Mary and I are members of the First Global Grid Forum Organizing Committee, and I want to benefit from this relation to get everything we can on the SDSC capability, and perhaps a demonstration of their web portal. Also, I plan to contact Ian Foster and Charlie Catlett, both from Argonne National Laboratory, to see if they can help us identify existing capabilities at other major computational resources. Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you will be able to attend the meeting at HPCMO, and if any of the two suggested dates is more preferable for you. Also, I look forward to working with you in assembling all the relevant information we need for our review, evaluation and recommendation. All suggestions and comments are welcome. I am really proud to be part of the MCWG team. This is a great opportunity for MCWG to help DoD HPCMO move in the national direction of "Grid" computing. I look forward to hearing from you this week. Attached is a copy of the second revision after the retreat in Atlanta. I am very comfortable with the outcome. If any of you has additional comments, please send them directly to Greg preferably by COB tomorrow and no later than COB Monday, 22 January 2001. Greg - Please produce a clean version of the proposal and ask Brad Comes to review it. If Brad approves it, then ask him to officially submit the DoD HPCMP Computational Grid Initiative Proposal to John Baird, DoD HPCMO, including a copy to MCWG members. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and everyone for your dedication and valuable contributions to the proposal. It was truly a team effort at its best. Regards, Aram Aram, Attached are the edited versions of the proposal. I have received comments from yourself, Ginny To, Bill Zilliox, Bill Johnston (NASA IPG), Jeff Graham, and the previous encorporated comments of Bill Asbury. I incorporated most of your suggested improvements. I did a little more modification to the section on risk assessment. Please review and if there is something I need to correct before we send it out again I will be glad to do it. If not, go ahead and send it out to the small group again. I need to talk to you about last weeks meeting on Metaqueueing. I will try to call sometime Thursday afternoon. Greg <> <>
