Text for CSIT Educational Programs Page
Departments affiliated with the School of Computational Science and
Information Technology grant degrees (MS and Ph.D.'s) in their own
disciplines. A student accepted into CSIT today will receive his or her Ph.D.
from one such department, with and accompanying specialization certificate in
CSIT.
The School of Computational Science and Information Technology is currently in
the second phase of a three phase process for new degree program development.
We are conducting a feasibility study and will request authorization to plan a
new degree program for both a Master's of Science Degree and a Ph.D. Degree in
Computational Science and Information Technology. It is anticipated that this
second phase, the feasibility study and request for authorization to plan a
new degree program, will be completed this year.
As part of this process the School is developing programs of study for both
the Master's and PhD Degree. These programs will consist of four types of
courses:
Course Type - Type Description Concentration Area - These courses will be
selected from those normally available in a students applicaiton discipline.
CSIT Core - These courses will provide the foundation for advanced training in
CSIT.
CSIT Advanced - These courses provide the students with advanced training in
CSIT that is relevant to their chosen application discipline.
CSIT Specialization - These courses combine advanced training in CSIT with
advanced training in specific applicaiton disciplines.
In addition to the graduate CSIT Degrees, CSIT is exploringing courses for
professional development of educators, an undergraduate honors course, and
graduate seminars and workshops on CSIT topics of importance to students in a
host of disciplines.
CSIT offers financial support for qualified students. This support is
currently available to graduate students who have been at FSU for at least one
year, are involved in multidisciplinary research and have at least one CSIT
co-advisor. The deadline for the applications is March 7, 2000. Application
and reference forms can be found online:
