I look forward to talking with you all this afternoon. The conversation will be brief (30 minutes) and there are a number of points we should touch. I will be spending all day thursday on the preproposal and hopefully will have it in reasonable shape before Y2K ends the world :-). Here are some items we should discuss briefly today: (1) Classification of the preproposal: ITR/EWF+HCI (see the note from Dick Hildebrandt -- attached) [5 minutes] (2) Activities/timelines/budgets: [15 minutes] I see four areas of activity: 1: Development of the web applications/ distributed objects. Event model, etc. 2: Information modeling and mapping for the backend (links to learning models) 3: Design of learning/collaborative environment to be supported by portal (including assessment / metrics?) 4: Development of testbeds with EOT-PACI partners I would look forward to roughly equal chunks of the budget going to these areas. Total a bit under $1M. I think that areas 1 & 3 would ramp up fast. 2 would ramp up after some of the learning issues are more well defined. The testbeds would come up last. (3) Other senior personnel. [5 minutes] I have a substantial EOT-PACI list related to the testbeds and development of specific portal modules (see Raquell & Scotts summary dated 12-21-99 (also attached for your reference)). Are there others I should include? Possible Personnel list: Spelman, Moorehouse, Clark Atlanta – Charles Hardnett Univ Houston Downtown – Richard Alo AIHEC – Tom Davis, Mark Trebian NCSA – Lisa Bievenue, Scott Lathrop SDSC – Ann/Cheryl? Shodor – Bob Panoff, Steve Stevenson Trace - Gilman, Vanderheiden SDSU – Kris Stewart Michigan – Barbara O’Keefe SRI – Mark Schlager (evaluation)? (4) Other Stuff re preproposal: [5 minutes] a) Does the event model make sense from the learning side? b) Can I de-emphasize 'partial ordering' -- seems not that critical an idea, but took up a lot of discussion space. I loved it from my youth in math courses where we proved various things about partial ordered sets, but .... c) REFERENCES FOR ALL THE PIECES YOU HAVE CONTRIBUTED!!! -- best, Roscoe --------------------------------------------------------------------- Name: Last Minute Instructions on Submitting ITR Last Minute Instructions on Submitting ITR Preproposals.txt Preproposals.txt Type: Plain Text (text/plain) Encoding: quoted-printable Name: itr-12-29-99-rg.doc itr-12-29-99-rg.doc Type: Winword File (application/msword) Encoding: base64
