Subject: CSIT Courses - MS Word Document Attached Resent-Date: Tue, 14 Dec 1999 09:35:38 -0500 Resent-From: Geoffrey Fox Resent-To: p_gcf@npac.syr.edu Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 23:57:21 -0500 From: "Larry Dennis" To: gcf@npac.syr.edu CC: "Larry Dennis" Geoffrey, I just heard from Yousuff that you will not be arriving at FSU until Dec. 28. Since I won't see you before holidays, I hope you have a happy one. I have started showing a very rough sketch of my thinking on the CSIT programs to a few people in CSIT, so I thought I should pass this on to you for your opinions. I am not sure that I will be in town until Jan. 2 and I hope to work on it during the holidays. Based on the courses below, I thought students in the information technology track would take a three semester sequence CST 5100C, CST 5101C, and CST 5450 and also take two courses from CST 5140, CST 5180, and CST 5350C. The program provides for a thesis master's degree, a doctoral degree, a few undergraduate courses and some professional development courses for teachers. There are several courses put into the schedule to support the information technology portions of the program. They include: CST 5100C Foundations of Information Technology A (part of CSIT Core) CST 5101C Foundations of Information Technology B (CSIT Core/CSIT Advanced Course) CST 5180 Distributed Collaboration Systems (CSIT Advanced Course) CST 5350C Distributed Computing Applications (CSIT Advanced Course) CST 5450 Advanced Methods for Information Technology (CSIT Advanced Course) CST 5701C Principles of Information Technology (Professional Education for Teachers) CST 5140C Data Intensive Computing (part of CSIT Core) CST 6936r Graduate Seminar in Information Technology CST 6938r Special Topics in Information Technology CST 6995r Graduate Tutorial in Information Technology Course of General Interest for Undergraduates CST 4000C Introduction to Information Technology - 4 hrs Some notes about the course numbers. The course numbers above are fictitious (I made them up for illustrative purposes) 4000 is an upper level undergraduate course. 5000 & up are graduate level. A "C" in the course number means it is a combined lecture/lab course An "r" in the course number means it can be taken repeatedly.
