Subject: ITR Preproposal Resent-Date: Sat, 01 Jan 2000 17:26:40 -0500 Resent-From: Geoffrey Fox Resent-To: p_gcf@npac.syr.edu Date: Thu, 30 Dec 99 21:47:54 -0800 From: Mark Smith To: "Geoffrey Fox" CC: "John Rundle" Geoffrey, I finally got to look over the ITR preproposal. I think that it looks quite good. I have only a couple of very minor comments, so if it is too late, no big deal. In the outreach section, I've worked on the GPS technology educational module with Jill and the teachers, so you could say that Jill and one of the PI's already has experience with the educational outreach. The modules are used quite extensively at the college level and for preservice teacher training and we've printed the first batch of CDs of a beta release. You might want to change Interactive data mining to Scientific Datamining. Also - datamining is one word. The word datamining is heavily used in commerce (e.g. detecting credit card fraud) and the definition of it will probably be set by that field. Scientific datamining sets what we do apart from the larger field. I liked the way the proposal read. Thanks for all of your work on this. It's been a bad couple of weeks for me. At the moment I can't check my work e-mail at home so this address or andreadonnellan@hotmail.com work better until Monday. Andrea
