Subject: Visualization as part of our ITR Resent-Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 10:58:07 -0500 Resent-From: Geoffrey Fox Resent-To: p_gcf@npac.syr.edu Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 10:46:46 -0500 From: "Terry E. Tullis" To: "Andrea Donnellan" , "John Rundle" , "Geoffery Fox" , David_Laidlaw@brown.edu CC: "Terry E. Tullis" Dear Geoffrey, David, John and Andrea, This is a multi-purpose email. David Laidlaw has agreed to be listed on our ITR proposal as one of the senior investigators. He and I talked about scientific visualization for over an hour yesterday and he is interested in working with us on such efforts and clearly has a lot to offer. One of the things he said is that you don't get something for nothing in this area - namely it can be a lot of work to come up with visualization methods that are suitably tailored for your particular needs and that are effective. David is interested in coming to a GEM workshop sometime to find out more about what we are doing and to tell us a bit about scientific visualization. Unfortunately he probably can't come to Maui March 26-28 because his wife is scheduled to give birth soon thereafter. This email will serve to give Geoffrey's email address to David so he can send Geoffrey his vita. I also attach a brief first draft of a couple of paragraphs that I just wrote discussing some issues that we felt might be worth including in the proposal concerning scientific visualization. As you will see, the second paragraph is different from the first in what it proposes to do and we may or may not want to propose to do what is in the second paragraph, but it might be interesting to the computer science field as well as be useful for us. We might feel that proposing to do this too was spreading ourselves too thin. Cheers, Terry Professor Terry E.
