Foil 6 Handling the Data

From Database Support for GIS Application Rome Lab Quarterly Review for CIV -- October 1 96. by Deepak Ramanathan *

1 A large percentage of the data is static.
  • With the exception of satellite images which are obtained periodically, census data and DEM data are essentially fixed.
2 For visually appealing terrain rendering, it is imperative that data having high spatial content be obtained.
3 Public Domain data lacks the spatial resolution that the project demands.
4 Commercial data, when used, has been found to meet these requirements. In the case of satellite imagery, commercial data is the only reasonable alternative.
