Foil 4 Open Inventor -- Overview

1 The library was originally developed by Silicon Graphics, Inc. as the IRIS Inventor library but is now licensed to a number of implementors and is appearing for a range of platforms including Sun, IBM, HP, Windows, Mac and HP.
2 Open Inventor characteristics:
  • It's built on top of OpenGL.
  • It defines a standard file format for 3D data interchange.
  • It introduces a simple event model for 3D interaction.
  • It provides animation objects called 'Engines'.
  • It is window system and platform independent.
  • It supports PostScript printing.
