FORTRAN 77 entirely contained within Fortran 90
Language goal is to "modernize Fortran, so that it may continue its long history as a scientific and engineering programming language"
Major language additions include:
  • array operations
  • numeric computation facilities
  • parameterized intrinsic data types
  • modularzation of data and procedures
  • pointer facilities
  • many more intrinsic functions
A significantly larger language than FORTRAN 77
