Foil 166 Controlling Detail and Rendering Time

From VRML 2 Basic Concepts and Definitions CPS616 -- Information Track of CPS -- Spring Semester 98. by Zeynep Ozdemir, Rob Baker, Meryem Ispirli, Geoffrey C. Fox

1 As the detail in the VRML world increases, VRML browser spends more time to load it and run it. To keep some balance between a detailed representation and a quick rendering is vital.
2 One technique is try to take advantage of the fact that shapes farther away from the viewer in the world need not be rendered with much detail as the ones which are closer to the viewer. This is called as level-of-detail technique.
