Foil 12 Generalizing the Buffer in MPI

From MPI Message Passing Interface Computational Science for Simulations -- Fall Semester 1998. by Geoffrey C. Fox, Nancy McCracken

MPI specifies the buffer by starting address, datatype, and count
  • starting address is obvious
  • datatypes are constructed recursively from
    • Elementary (all C and Fortran datatypes)
    • Contiguous array of datatypes
    • Strided blocks of datatypes
    • Indexed array of blocks of datatypes
