Programs use separate (disjoint) communicators for internal messages
  • But share MPI_COMM_WORLD
To connect them
  • Use MPI_INTERCOMM_CREATE or MPI_INTERCOMM_MERGE to form intercommunicator
  • Use MPI_SEND, et al. as usual
