Structure of MAPINT Conference
Interactions with Gateway Project and Alliance "Post Web Computing Environments"
Role of TangoInteractive and other collaboration tools in Scientific Research
Importance of DREN
Metacomputing among the PET MSRC's
Most discussion of use of TangoInteractive in training was in training breakout sessions -- we discussed use of TangoInteractive in briefings and seminars
No discussion of Web pages, PET IntraNet or Management Information Systems

Agreement on suggested topics: Gateway, National Machine Room (metacomputing infrastructure)
Highlight PET and especially CHSSI
Other Technologies:
  • Multidisciplinary Optimization (MDO as in Boeing and Langley)
  • Integration of experimental data and simulations
Application areas: CFD and Grids were covered last time so choose other foci
  • SIP: Deeply Buried Structures (with CEN and CEA)
  • SIP: Realtime target simulations for ATR (with CEA and XPATCH program and DEMACO company))
  • CCM
This time link to MDICE workshop not clear as we don't expect to feature CFD

Foil 4 Involvement with Gateway

We must set up a process to allow interested groups (particular CTA's and providers of services) to interact with Gateway
  • CEA CEN CCM SIP particularly interested (FMS is "already" Gateway)
DICE is an important opportunity
  • It provides a "middle tier service" -- a data hub or visualization server
  • And a client with a choice of visualization renderers and filters
Clarify role of RIB -- tentative claim that RIB fits well with Gateway and Gateway standards will build on RIB standards
How does one work with existing systems such as ECCE (CCM) from PNL
  • As with DICE, eventually break up existing systems into "XML" components but initially integrate as standalone systems
Presentation at SIP Forum May 25-26
IMT is still beginning -- premature to involve with Gateway

Foil 5 Working with TangoInteractive

From Review of Information and Communications Working Group at ARL and ASC Review Meeting ARL ASC Joint Mid Year Review Aberdeen Maryland -- Feb 23-25 1999. *

SIP suggests use in CHSSI test meetings which involve briefings and demonstrations of programs running
ARL Suggests use in seminars (Fox talk in April?), ARL Users Groups, DoD Users Group (perhaps for selected tutorials and some sessions)
CEN very interested in use in using TangoInteractive for scientific collaboration between NCSA and ASC
Jay Boris (CFD) was interested last June in this area
Substantial training discussion with CSM

Can expect improved multicast support on DREN and linked networks.
  • Note it will be about one month to finish/test the Multicast version of audio-video conferencing in TangoInteractive
Not clear if security implications of Gateway are fully understood -- need to involve those responsible for certifying
Metacomputing (National Machine Room at low level) probably does not have necessary resources to implement(at least at ARL)
Could Sun E10000 which has T & E, S & T, Test domains be useful in areas like FMS ?
