1 WAN is a data communication network that covers broad geographic area and uses facilities provided by telephone companies
2 WAN technologies function at the lower 3 layers of the OSI RM: physical, datalink and network
3 Point-to-point link provides pre-established WAN path (leased lines)
  • datagram transmission (individually addressed frames)
  • data-stream transmission (address checking occurs only once)
