Development and Performance of the Acoustic Equations in High Performance Fortran

Abstract
The physical problem of wave propagation is examined as well as the
numerical methods used in its solution. The wave propagation problem
was implemented in sequential FORTRAN 77, sequential Fortran 90, and
High Performance Fortran (HPF). Performance of each implementation was
examined and compared. THe results of four HPF compilers (Digital,
Applied Parallel Research, IBM, and the Portland Group Inc.) are
compared to show how each compiler handles this type of code.
