Abstract
We discuss the design, construction and use of scalable software libraries
for High Performance Computing systems and parallel computing platforms in
particular. We relate our experiences in working with industrial and
commercial organizations in determining requirements for such libraries and
the driving forces and pre-requisities for such libraries. We descibe a
number of libraries produced by the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre and
focus on the ScaLAPACK linear algebra library produced by the University of
Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. We describe how ScaLAPACK was
successfully deployed in a computational electromagnetics project for
Syracuse Research Corporation, by the Northeast Parallel Architectures
center. We also provide pointers to online source code and information
about these libraries.
