Abstract
Recent advances in the application of asymptotic methods to the analysis of
turbulent wall-bounded shear flows in the limit of large Reynolds number are
surveyed. In particular, we consider (i) the turbulent wake downstream of
sharp and wedge-shaped trailing edges, (ii) turbulent boundary-layer flow
under the influence of a large and adverse pressure gradient and the related
turbulent separation problem, and (iii) three-dimensional turbulent
boundary-layer flow. The above are discussed in the context of incompressible
flow. The emphasis is on contributions from the USA; however, related work
elsewhere is also discussed.
