A while ago I proposed the CERN Academic Training Committee to run a series of talks on the GRID. Specifically at an educational level aiming to demistify the concept and technology for those knowing nothing/little about it. To me, this is a required step to build "external" synergy around projects of the nature we are addressing nowadays. The success of the GRID is largely a sociological challenge: we do know the basics of the technology, but we are not used to collaborative work at such scale, not even the physicists (the LHC collaborations are showing regular communication "flaws" following the fragmentation of their communities; similar patterns as the increase of regionalistic feelings in EU; interesting). Ops sorry, to the point. So I thought again of you. Following your different press articles/interviews I share your approach to dissemination and raising of awareness to the GRID. I wonder if you could afford to lecture the series yourself (3 to 5 one-hour talks, any time in the first half of 2003). Or if it cannot be, would you propose somebody else known to you for his pedagogical skills (short of having you cloned :-) ) Let me know. Regardless of having this occasion or not I'll be more than pleased to kidnap you for a coffee at your next visit, your agenda allowing. Greetings, Miguel ------_=_NextPart_001_01C2743F.99807710 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" FW: CERN Series on popularising GRID

Subject: CERN Series on popularising GRID

Hello Tony,
I am very pleased to have another occasion to talk to you, I wish there
were more.
A while ago I proposed the CERN Academic Training Committee to run a
series
of talks on the GRID. Specifically at an educational level aiming to
demistify
the concept and technology for those knowing nothing/little about it.

To me, this is a required step to build "external" synergy around
projects
of the nature we are addressing nowadays. The success of the GRID is
largely a sociological challenge: we do know the basics of the
technology,
but we are not used to collaborative work at such scale, not even the
physicists (the LHC collaborations are showing regular communication
"flaws" following the fragmentation of their communities; similar
patterns
as the increase of regionalistic feelings in EU; interesting).

Ops sorry, to the point. So I thought again of you. Following your
different press articles/interviews I share your approach to
dissemination
and raising of awareness to the GRID.

I wonder if you could afford to lecture the series yourself (3 to 5
one-hour talks, any time in the first half of 2003). Or if it cannot be,
would you propose somebody else known to you for his pedagogical skills
(short of having you cloned :-) )

Let me know. Regardless of having this occasion or not I'll be more than
pleased to kidnap you for a coffee at your next visit, your agenda
allowing.
Greetings, Miguel
