Think this is the strategy we should move forward with.  I'll edit the note below, with Jim's suggestions and send it out tomorrow.  On the agenda, I'd suggest we drop the topic of sensors.  Although they are interesting, I am not sure they fit with the current focus.

Grid on the Go Program Committee Summary

Based on discussions through last week, there is agreement that there is not sufficient time, given the
current state of the agenda and upcoming holiday season, to fully develop a program and hold a conference in FebruaryThere is also agreement that a planning meeting which could lead to a conference or series of conferences was the best way to proceed.  It is estimated that approximately 25 invited participants will attend this planning meeting.  The agenda will likely be composed of a number of presentations and round-table discussions.

The agencies supporting this activity want to explore the impact of hand-helddevices (defined as pda's and wireless enabled laptops) on the emerging national infrastructure currently being prototyped by a number of Federally-funded programs including PACI, NASA's IPG and the DoD HPC Modernization program.  The term used to define these infrastructure building and deployment efforts is the National Technology Grid or "the Grid."  The funding agencies are also interested in how the development of the Grid will enable other uses of wireless such as sensors and hand-held devices in education and training.

Next steps:

1) Given the change in direction we need to determine who wants to ramain on the program committee to develop the agenda for the planning meeting.

2)  Committee members develop an agenda for the planning meeting using Geoffrey Fox' draft agenda attached below as a starting point.

3) Identify additional speakers and participants.

4) Get invitations out to people identified in #3 asap (first week in December).
