The SC2002 panels committee was pleased to receive many attractive submissions this year and regret that we could select only a limited number. In addition to selecting panels that mesh well with the technical program and appeal to a variety of interests, we were limited by the number of sessions allotted to panels. This year, there were 2 invited panels in the field of homeland security. Invited panels, besides being of interest to the SC2002 technical registrants, are designed to bring additional registration from the local area. In order to accept more panels, 6 of the 8 SC2002 panels will be held on Friday morning. The acceptance rate from the formal call for participation was 37.5%; 6 panels were selected from the 16 submissions. The combination of these factors, plus the fact that many submissions overlapped, made the selection process more difficult than anticipated. I regret to inform you that your panel was not one of those selected. Thank you again for your submission.
