Weel-formed-ness and Validation of XML Documents against some certain xml schemas. Bugs of Apache Xerces has been spotted, ways to short-cut those bugs has been developed. For Independent Studies: JXTA - researched. Web Services, SOAP - researched. XML : dom, sax, jdom, JAXP, Xerces - researched. SUN's Multi-Schema Validator has been studied. JNDI, GNDI, GXOS - researched. JSP - file upload and examining of the file that has been uploaded. Swing - Client Side Java technology has been studied. Evaluation of Borland JBuilder 6.0 and its class libraries. Singleton Pattern for Java Applications has been studied. Thanks Mehmet Necati Aysan Independent Study My Independent Study topic for Spring 2002 was Online Knowledge Center Portal Study. I worked on OKC portal content, portal's maintenance issues and responsible from adding web pages to the system keep them running and updating when new content arrives. 1.Web pages CE, SIP CDLT, OKC, CEN, CEA have been added to the portal. 2. I solved Netscape display problem for Jetspeed. I wrote a velocity template and simplify the existing structure in order to solve display problem for NN 4.7. The nested table structure has been simplified. Now it is working on both ports for judi 80 and 4000. After changing the template other problems occured specific to some OKC pages such as ERDC, Navo because of nested tables in them. Nested tables have been removed from these pages. 3. The database connection with HSQL has been switched to Oracle database. 4. Another layout for guest2 has been created. JSP file has been written for this new guest2 account's menu. New layout alternatives for users will be decided and provided in the future. Research I studied Velocity and it's syntax. I did research on how to solve Netscape Navigator 4.7 versions display problem for Jetspeed. Netscape 4.7x has a known performance problem with nested tables and Jetspeed uses nested table in order to guarantee portlet output. I wrote a velocity template and simplify the existing structure in order to solve display problem for NN 4.7. I am reading papers related with grid computing in general and specificaly in portal. I read the following papers. Hello Dr.=20 Fox,

I've=20 summarized what I did at Spring below for your interest.

Mehmet=20 Nacar

Research

I=92m=20 working for Gateway team with Marlon. Our motivation is to implement = workflow=20 management and user notification system for Batch jobs that running on = HPC and=20 using Batch Queuing systems like PBS, LSF, Load Leveler. This system is=20 supported by JMS event system that serves as workflow engine. Also, it = will have=20 web service part. The architecture of it is given below.

First=20 focus is PBS, I=92ve installed and configured it on = noahsark.ucs.indiana.edu. It=92s=20 running there and any user can submit a job and get an e-mail response. = So far=20 MailReceiver,  MailHandler, Job=20 Object and Subscribers parts are done, recently I'm finishing SOAP = connection=20 and web service part. I've implemented 1,000 lines of code, at finished = it'll be=20 around 1500 lines. I=92ve used JavaMail, JMS, JAXP, Xerces, Castor, SOAP = APIs at=20 all.

Once it=20 finished, I=92ll integrate with LSF and other specific Batch processor. = The system=20 is reusable and it has a design pattern that supports extensions. Also, = it will=20 be integrate with Gateway at the end.

Independent = Study

I've reviewed and read some recent articles, white papers and = tutorials=20 about

web=20 services event model. My focus was to build a workflow management system = for=20 Scientific HPC. So, I=92ve researched on job queuing systems and come up = with PBS=20 that is open source, common and reliable. We decided that using JMS = event model=20 to build web services events. I=92ve tested it on some sample codes and = it works=20 fine.

Thus, one=20 can implement a system that can refresh JSP pages every couple seconds = and users=20 gets information needed. At backend, JMS pushes messages to subscribers, = in=20 other words JMS distributes results to users. Therefore, a workflow = management=20 system can be built using JMS and web services.

I was registered for three hours. I am not sure how should I have diveded my time but definetley I am spending more than 20+3n hours in the lab. I can say I mostly worked on Access Grid for keeping it more stable and more usable sound quality. Last meeting on friday, which was more than 4 hours showed that we have reached a point that we can have 4 hours meeting wihout ant problem. It was so succesfull. As we talked last semester I am creating a document talks about how to implement Access Grid, and how to use it with basics. According to my records I had sent this email before on 14 May 2002. My Independent Study was about gateway-globus but Mr. Hansen wanted me to be more precise and more specific on subject and I gave him this subject below Gateway implementation by using Java Cog Kit For Independent Study; I have tried to develop a grid portal. For this purpose, -as a first step- I have implemented LDAP(Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) browser and user interface. (8 java classes and over 1000 lines, 5 jsp pages and over 850 lines.) For Research; I have worked on GPDK (Grid Portal Development Kit) implementations. I worked on MDS, GRIS and GIIS parts of globus project. I have studied on lots of codes implemented for LDAP purpose. I have written some codes on LDAP by using JNDI. I have read a book about LDAP. Its name is LDAP Programming Directory-Enabled Applications with Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. If you want me to give more detailed information about my works (books, papers that I have read etc.), please let me know.
