Conflict of Interest Over last year I have done consulting with a) DoE on ASCI and Review of Los Alamos I have no contracts with DoE and I don't see this as having special features It does exploit my expertise This may not continue as I have no idea why DoE sometimes pays consulting and sometimes not b) USRA on the "Lockheed Martin CSOC Project" (http://www.usra.edu) This is an advisory role for NASA on "Consolidated Space Operations Contract" This is base Information Technology and no specific connection to any contract or project. I do not do research in "Space Mission Control" c) JPL on "Information Technology for Earth science" This used to be unconnected with any contract but now we have an "HPCC for Earthquake Simulation" grant from NASA (new start) with JPL as lead. I have no planned consulting in near future with JPL and I asked them to be aware of this potential conflict. They will get back to me (and then Indiana) about this. I helped set up two companies in area of Collaboration and distance training d) WebWisdom.com. I am careful to be entirely passive here as this company licensed all the technologies we developed at Syracuse in this area. I have an agreement from Syracuse making it clear that I can proceed freely after leaving Syracuse as long as I just deal with ideas and not specific software dedveloped at Syracuse e) Anabas. This was set up in September 2000 and got some initial VC funding I have a small equity stake (1%) and do some consulting on "technical direction" I am also a member of Board of Directors I would expect Anabas to be interested in licensing software from my research group if we develop interesting capabilities. I think this would happen around 6 months from now when a) Anabas has raised second round of funding (if it doesn't the situation will be moot!) b) We have some software of significance -- Note I had to start all software from scratch in this area at FSU so I don't yet have systems of sophistication I used to have. I had a similar "conflict of interest" with WebWisdom.com at Syracuse and I signed over any royalties (none of which ever happened) to University. In fact as discussed, in any case I do not want personal royalties but rather asked that any such go to Laboratory. Anabas only works in area of collaborative training and it does not affect my work on "computing portals" (The Gateway effort) I believe that Anabas consulting uses expertise gotten from research funded by NCSA and perhaps some with the new MSU contract.
