<i>Cross/Z International is a medium size software company specializing in
fractal data compression. Their software can be used to create fractal views 
of large databases in a highly compressed format. Queries against the
compressed databases can be run on a PC instead of a mainframe or a
supercomputer. Cross/Z International has an established customer base among 
Fortune 500 companies which use the fractal compression software for their deci
sion
support systems.

	Cross/Z International approached InfoMall to discuss their 
plans to develop new generation of their software. Two different issues
are under consideration:

<ul>
<li> to create highly dimensional fractal view of a large database, a
considerable computing power is needed. Flexibility of the Cross/Z
approach depends on their ability to create multiple database views.
Cross/Z believes that parallel processing is needed to achieve requested
processing speed.
<li> Cross/Z product needs tightly coupled interface to large databases.
InfoMall database infrastructure offers Cross/Z opportunity to integrate
their software with the newest parallel database product. The currently
discussed project postulates creation of an integrated decision support
system in which all system components, including user interface, fractal
compression engine, fractal database query engine, and the original
relational data repository are served from the same MPP platform. It is
expected that such a solution would offer very high performance and
significant savings for companies building high-performance decision
support systems

Cooperation with Cross/Z makes use from a broad range of expertise
offered by Infomall, including both parallel programming and parallel database
expertise.

InfoMall Activities with Cross/Z International:</h3>

<ul>
<li>  A number of meetings have been held in both InfoMall and Cross/Z
locations. A technical plan has been outlined. Currently, InfoMall and
Cross/Z work together to ensure funding for realization of the project.
