Focused Effort Title: Collaborative Computing Environments (Web Interfaces) PI Name: David Bernholdt PI EMail Address: bernhold@npac.syr.edu PI Telephone: 315 443 3857 PI Fax: 315 443 1973 Description: This project is designed to demonstrate the use of the Tango Interactive framework to "share" HPC applications to facilitate remote collaborative use of such applications for research, training, etc. Since every application presents a unique mix of issues with respect to "collaboratization", we will choose for our demonstration prototypes applications which can be treated as fairly general models for certain aspects of the collaboratization problem. Accomplishments: We have developed a "Tango Bean", following the Java Bean concept, which allows certain classes of applications to be "collaboratized" in more or less automatic fashion. A paper on this work was presented by Lukasz Beca at the recent WETICE'99 (Workshops on Enabling Technologies: Infrastructure for Collaborative Enterprises) conference and has also been submitted at a CEWES Pre-Print. In its present form, this technology applies only to applications written in Java, but could be extended to certain types of native applications with high-level Java wrappers. Plans: Due to unexpecting internal staffing problems, we have had to delay the start of work directly with user applications, but in the next period we plan to push this forward. Problems: no problems
