Foil 22 More Details on JDBC Driver Architectures

From Overview of JDBC: Java Database Connectivity Basic Information Track Computational Science Course CPS616 -- Spring Semester 1999. by Nancy McCracken,(Sangetta Aggarwal, Meryem Ispirli, Udayan Parvate, Tom Pulikal, Chao-Wei Ou)

1 The JDBC API defines Java classes to represent database connections, SQL statements, result sets, database metadata, etc. It allows a Java programmer to issue SQL statements and process the results. JDBC is the primary API for database access in Java.
2 The JDBC DriverAPI represents (which is also a part of package java.sql) the set of interface classes , any new jdbc compliant driver should implement. This imparts inherent extendibility for different types of databases.
3 The remote access to a database over the network completely depends upon the particular installation of the jdbc driver for that database.
