Foil 24 Java Framework for Computing Services

From Java Grande: Is Java Useful in MPP/HPCC Environments? Frontiers 99 Conference Annapolis -- February 21-25 99. by Geoffrey C. Fox

1 So computer users are not only interested in metacomputing but rather in being able to run their jobs in a seamless way that does not keep changing as backend computer resources are upgraded
2 Viewing computing as a distributed (object) service, need to define a "Java Framework for Computing Services"
3 This enables development of Web Interfaces ("Portals") to run a given job on any computer with any data source compliant with this framework just as JDBC gives a universal interface to any relational database
  • Metacomputing in addition allows linkage of multiple computers to run together on a single job
4 The Computing Services Framework will allow vendors to compete on either User Front End (GUI) or back end services with the JavaCS framework providing universal linkage
