Foil 5 Lessons Learned and Useful Strategies

From Synchronous Education between Michigan and San Diego Federal Web Consortium Meeting at NPACI All Hands Meeting San Diego -- Jan 27 1999. by Ilya Zaslavsky

1 Advanced preparation and careful lecture scenarios are important, though some ad hoc freedom in using visual tools is necessary. Have a pre-built set of images to share in whiteboard.
2 Involve students in presenting themselves (once they see that they can do it, it works!)
3 Re-create or maintain traditional channels of student-teacher interaction as much as possible.
4 Maintain all possible interaction channels active (e-mail, chat, whiteboard, DocReview, etc.)
5 Archive discussions, whiteboards, chats.
6 Meet with students face to face, at least couple times.
