Subject: west paper draft Resent-Date: Fri, 17 Dec 1999 13:50:51 -0500 Resent-From: Geoffrey Fox Resent-To: p_gcf@npac.syr.edu Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 09:02:01 -0600 From: "West, John E WES" To: gcf@npac.syr.edu professor fox - you might remember that at sc99 we talked about the recent stuff i have been doing phd-wise, and you suggested that i consider publishing what i've done so far on reliable performance estimates. well, as you know i'm writing up little parts of the research as i go along (to make the dissertation easier to write), and have finished a draft of what i have done to date. now, here's the thing. i'm not in a group that publishes much, so i don't have much in the way of experience to draw on around here about publishing. i'm not very experienced at writing, and i'm not experienced at knowing what is publishable and what isn't. while i know that the work was necessary to do as part of my phd, i don't know if its publishable on its own either from technical merit or writing and composition points of view. so i'm in search of brutal honesty. if you have time, i would be most grateful if you could peruse this draft (attached, word) and render an opinion on what i've done so far. if you don't have time, what with the holidays and moving and all, its no problem. hope all is well, jw.
