• Entity is a term that represents certain data

• XML parser will substitute that data for the entity

• Entities can be used to store binary data

• Predefined entities: amp, lt, gt, apos, quot that stand for: &, <, >, ‘, “

• Example:

<statementɱ < 8</statement>
