Southampton HPF system in beta release -------------------------------------- The Southampton High Performance Fortran system was released for beta testing on the 9th of June. The system has been developed in a collaboration between Dr John Merlin of ECS and Dr Bryan Carpenter of SUCS, with EPSERC and JISC funding. The final release will be made freely available to UK higher education institutes. The system translates a program written in Subset High Performance Fortran to standard Fortran 90, with calls to a communication library implemented on top of the new message-passing interface standard, MPI. The HPF system should be portable to most systems with a Fortran 90 compiler and an MPI installation available (public domain MPI releases are now available for many platforms, including workstation clusters and conventional parallel computers).
