CPS 714 Project Proposal - Fall 1998

I would like to use Runtime Infrastructure (RTI) code to run the Brutzman's DIS demo(and Jager Demo if time permits) on the Web.

Brutzman(from Naval Post Graduate School at Monterey Bay, CA) is trying to finish the Java version of the DIS Standard (IEEE 1278.1-1995). In their demo, they are using a VRML browser on the front end and a bunch of servers(bridges) on the server side to provide the point-to-point communication.

DMSO is trying to standadize the HLA and its supporting components. Runtime Infrastructure(RTI) tries to define a distributed operating environment for the federation(simulations).

We recently downloaded RTI F.0 version and we are going to download the recent version RTI 1.0(I am not sure about the version). It has a CORBACap so that RTI can be a vertical/domain specific object service in the ORB. From the RTI F.0 manuals, it looks like it needs an Orbix 2.x ORB for C,C++.

As a project, it is going to have the VRML browser front end and communicate with the RTI through IIOP and RTI is going to be an Object in the ORB.
