TO: ARL PET Team
ASC PET Team
The following are preliminary thoughts on how the ARL/ASC Joint Review
and Planning Workshop scheduled for February 23 25 will be
structured.
This workshop is a formal continuation of ad hoc efforts to increase the
collaboration between ARL PET and ASC PET. The focus will be to
review where we have been and to enter discussions with the partners to
pursue joint efforts thus leveraging the resources.
In an earlier message we advised you that the workshop would be held at
the Sheraton Four Points Inn in Aberdeen, Maryland. Tentatively,
this is still the plan. However, with the recent completion of the
expansion of the HEAT Center, the workshop may be moved to the HEAT
Center since there are a greater number of rooms available to accommodate
breakout sessions and discussion groups. We will confirm this with
you as soon as we have all the details worked out.
Further we are considering asking some of our partners to present
demonstrations of their work and to present posters. If you desire
to present a demonstration or a poster please let me know by the end of
January.
Objectives of the workshop:
------------------------------------------
1. Provide a status and progress report of the respective ARL and
ASC PET programs
2. Engage in discussions for identifying and developing
collaborative projects for the outyears.
Pre-workshop Effort:
------------------------------------------
Each PET Academic and corporate partner should be prepared to present a
status report of current contract efforts to date. The report of
efforts to date will be evaluated in terms of value added to the DOD
objective of increasing the computational capabilities of the DOD
labs. The specific metrics for presenting the value added will be
left to the discretion of the partner . However, as was discussed
at the ARL Year 2 end-of-year review we should focus our efforts on how
our work advances the work of the DOD scientists and engineers. The
time available for the report by the partners is limited so please
confine the discussions to substantive matters within the framework
discussed above.
Currently Proposed Daily Schedule:
(See attached details)
------------------------------------------
February 23
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
February 24
8:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.
February 25
8:00 a.m. to 5:00
p.m.
Presentations:
Each PET area will present a status report using PowerPoint Presentation
slide. As a guideline there should be no more than six briefing
charts in which the presenter will discuss the substantive aspects of the
contract work.
To minimize the time required between presentations we will have one
computer with projector set up for all presenters to use.
