The LiveConnect/Plug-in
Developer's Guide

Netscape LiveConnect is a family of technologies for developing powerful internet and intranet applications. LiveConnect encompasses Netscape Navigator plug-ins -- native-code extensions to the Navigator's basic presentation capabilities -- as well as facilities for integrating plug-ins with Java and JavaScript. This allows plug-ins to be controlled by Java applets, and to be controlled by JavaScript that is part of the containing HTML page.

This guide is divided into four main sections:

• The LiveConnect/Plug-in SDK -- describes how to download the latest software development kit, how to get started, and where to look for the latest changes and release notes,

• The Plug-in Developer's Guide -- describes how to create new Netscape Navigator plug-ins,

• LiveConnecting Plug-ins with Java -- describes how to expose plug-in features to Java and JavaScript programs by using Java native methods, and

• LiveConnect Communication in JavaScript -- this section of the JavaScript Guide describes how you can use JavaScript to control Java applets and plug-ins.
