Foil 27 Distributed Memory Machines

From CPS615-Introduction-Course,Driving Technology and HPCC Current Status and Futures CPS615 Basic Simulation Track for Computational Science -- Fall Semester 98. by Geoffrey C. Fox, (Some Culler, Koelbel material)

Every processor has a memory others can't access.
Advantages:
  • Relatively easy to design and build
  • Predictable (if modest) behavior
  • Can be scalable
  • Can hide latency of communication
Disadvantages:
  • Hard to program
  • Program and O/S (and sometimes data) must be replicated
