Foil 25 Abstract of CPS615 Architecture Discussion

From Master Set of Foils for 1997 Session of CPS615 Basic Simulation Track for Computational Science CPS615 -- Fall Semester 97. by Geoffrey C. Fox

1 We describe the simple nature of parallel machines like the nCUBE2
2 Technologies include conventional, superconducting and Quantum systems but the former dominates
3 Sequential architectures are dominated by memory (cache) issues
4 Vector, SIMD MIMD are classic architectures
5 There is a growing interest in distributed metacomputers
6 Special purpose machines are typically not so successful
7 The details of networks is not as important as it used to be!
