Foil 4 Capabilities of the ARPS code

From General Collection of Foils for CRPC Annual Meeting CRPC Annual Meeting -- 14-17 May 1996 Argonne. by Geoffrey C. Fox

1 Non-hydrostatic, compressible dynamics in a terrain-following vertical coordinate.
2 6 water phases microphysics (water vapor, cloud water, rain water, cloud ice, snow, and hail/graupel.)
3 Supports MPP's (T3D's, SP2's, clusters, ...)
4 Other current numerical prediction models lack the spatial resolution required to capture small-scale, short-duration events such as snow bands.
  • Can predict down to the Microscale Phenomena
  • 0 to 1 hours.
  • Location of events to within 1 km & timing to within 5 min.
  • DV ±2 m/s, DT ±2 Kelvin, precip rate ±2 mm/hr.
5 Note Syracuse Area weather very position sensitive
